It is now 200 years after Galbatorix's death. Upon his death, all the magic he had used to keep people in his control ended. Nasuada, when given the option to take control of the crumbled empire, denied and said it belonged to someone who won an open election. She ended up being the leader of the new republic anyway, after being one of the few nominated people for elections. Glaedr's last stand, now known as Glaedr's Call, brought dragons from far-away continents to the lands of Alagaesia. Saphira and Thorn's descendants, mixed with the descendants of the wild dragons, repopulated the lands with dragons. The Shur'tugal order was restored, to a point, and now is beginning to resume its peace-keeping duties in the land.

However, there are whispers of a new enemy regrouping in the Hadarac desert, and darkness is beginning to once again inhabit the land.
